This blog post continues the amazing Indian wedding celebrations of Annie and Mohsin. As any South Asian Wedding Photographer would tell you, an Ismaili pithi ceremony is one that is filled with the usual hindu wedding traditions such as the application of the turmeric (pithi) and the breaking of the clay object (sapothia). However, there is one unusual custom and this the egging of the groom. After the pithi is applied to the groom, he is taken outdoors where the friends and cousins throw eggs at him. Eventually, there are other things as well such as chocolate syrup, tomato ketchup, mustard, flour, and milk. Sometimes, it is taken to the extreme where the groom gets poured with honey and then covered with pillow feathers. We don’t know who started this ritual or what this ritual symbolizes; however it can be an interesting ritual to capture as long as you are as far away from the groom.
Annie and Mohsin’s pithi ceremonies were no different. We certainly enjoyed capturing all the performances that their friends and family had to show after the pithi ceremonies were over. There was a special performance by Annie and Mohsin which just stole the show.
